Position Description
Three Rivers Land Trust, an accredited Land Trust, is seeking an outgoing, highly organized, energetic, self-starter and outdoor enthusiast that is ready to assist with a multitude of tasks across the Land Trust.
The primary duty of this position will be to track, manage, and correspond with Land Trust members, track financial deposits/financial information, file and manage donor records, provide clerical and administrative support to the organization, and assist with the planning and execution of a variety of events.
Additional duties include but are not limited to planning, coordinating, and managing volunteers and volunteer workdays, accurately maintaining financial information/dashboards and other duties as needed. This position will also serve as the secretary to the Board of Directors and several other Land Trust subcommittees. This position will operate out of the Salisbury office.

This includes the ability to create well-formatted documents in Word, analyze data in Excel, create professional presentations in PowerPoint, and effectively use Outlook for email communications and collaborative calendaring. Adobe Suite experience is preferred.
• Experience with donor database software.
• Ability to work independently and take initiative while maintaining confidentiality.
• Ability to travel and work some weekends.
• A strong, authentic interest in nature, conservation, North Carolina’s Piedmont and Sandhills, and outdoor recreation is required.

Habitat Enhancement Lands Program Coordinator: Forest Wildlife Specialist

TRLT is hiring a wildlife-oriented forester to work effectively with North Carolina landowners across a 15-county region. The selected individual will coordinate the implementation of forest management and wildlife habitat improvements on private lands to achieve landowner objectives.
Position Description
The Habitat Enhancement Lands Program (H.E.L.P.) is a for-fee service that provides practical forestry and wildlife habitat management advice to landowners. H.E.L.P is a “one-stop-shop” that guides a landowner through the process of meeting their property goals. H.E.L.P offers customizable land management services through one-on-one consultation.
The H.E.L.P. Coordinator is responsible for leading and developing the program. The individual within this position should be an entrepreneurial, business-minded, self-starter that has a natural ability to connect and communicate with landowners. A successful candidate will be driven to lead “boots-on-the-ground” management with a strong background in forest management and applied habitat management techniques.
The H.E.L.P. Coordinator will provide verbal, written, and on-site technical assistance to interested landowners. The individual in this position will work directly with landowners to identify options for financial assistance to their lands, guide landowners through cost-share processes, and facilitate and/or implement services including, but not limited to, wildlife-oriented timber harvests, wildlife management plans, forestry management plans, food plot development, non-native plant control, prescribed fire, reforestation, game-species management, and pollinator habitat development.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions
- Provide and implement sound fiscal and science-based management on private lands.
- Develop agreements with landowners, partner organizations, and agencies to implement habitat improvements on private lands.
- Collect and review silvics data, draft forest management plans, and prepare stands for prescribed management.
- Develop harvest prescriptions, delineate harvest boundaries, cruise timber resources, bid/negotiate sale prices on landowner’s behalf, develop and administer contracts, oversee logging crews, and oversee reforestation options.
- Develop relationships with local contractors to implement prescribed management practices.
- Participate in the implementation of complex habitat restoration projects by preparing work plans, contracts, proposals, permits, budgets, and deliverables.
- Safely operate, maintain, and oversee the repair of TRLT-owned equipment.
- Apply herbicides/pesticides safely and effectively, according to labels, laws, and best practices.
- Develop prescribed burn plans, firing operations, and mop-up with correct regimes to meet landowner objectives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in forestry, wildlife science, or related discipline with a strong understanding of forest stand improvement practices and wildlife conservation in southeastern forest communities
- Registered Forester Certification (or the ability to obtain within 2-years) and experience with timber harvests
- A strong business background to foster the growth of the HELP program
- Keen plant identification skills and knowledge of specific herbicides/pesticides to meet land management goals
- In-depth understanding of forest management including operations, silvicultural systems, forest product markets, and environmental regulation
- Experience developing and implementing site-specific forest management plans/practices, and the ability to use forest inventory tools
- Technical expertise in field forestry, including management plan preparation, forest inventory, timber marking, boundary layout, and GPS data collection.
- Ability to assess wildlife habitat and make connections between forest management and wildlife needs
- Knowledge of wildlife ecology principles, and the ability to practically apply those to develop and implement conservation plans
- Prescribed fire experience; Certified Prescribed Burn Manager Certification preferred
- Excellent spoken and written communication skills, networking skills, well organized, and ability to engage with a diversity of stakeholders and conservation partners
- Experience working with private landowners as well as public agencies (NRCS, USFWS, NCFS, NCWRC, etc.) and associated knowledge of cost-share programs
- Applicant must be able to develop and manage their own daily work schedule to achieve results and work independently while managing complex projects under deadlines
