On November 9th, instead of having a Uwharrie Trail workday as we typically do on the 2nd Saturday of each month, we will have a cookout and hike to celebrate the more than 1000 hours of volunteer work that has gone into restoring more than 8 miles of the historic Uwharrie Trail!

We will meet at the Robbins Branch Trailhead at 1:00 pm (address is 5533 Lassiter Mill Rd, Asheboro, NC 27205, GPS N35.59014, W79.94873 –  look for the brown USFS sign and take the gravel road on the eastern side of Lassiter Mill Road into the trailhead). We’ll hike the approximately 6 mile loop around Hannah’s Creek and Birkhead Trails. For those who would like a longer hike, a group will take the Camp 3 loop which adds another approximately 2 miles more. We will then caravan down to the newly protected
McArthur Property, a future trailhead of the Uwharrie Trail, on High Pine Church Rd.

This hike should take approximately 3 hours and is of moderate difficulty. Cookout will start around 4 pm. Come for what suits your schedule.  The Land Trust will provide grilled meats, veggie option, buns, cups, plates, and drinks, ect.  Please bring a side if you can.

If you want to join us just for the cookout at 4pm, we will meet about a half mile west of Pisgah Covered Bridge Rd/Strieby Church Rd. intersection with the High Pine Church Rd. Look for a mailbox at 6781 High Pine Church Rd. with flagging on it. Drive up the hill and park in the field. (GPS: 35.55546700, -79.94628300)

Don Childrey will be here with his newly released 2nd Edition of the Uwharrie Lakes Region Trail Guide for sale! And we’ll have UT thru hike shirts for sale, too! Thanks to all the many volunteers who have made our Uwharrie Trail efforts possible! Everyone is welcome to attend and please bring a friend! Food will be provided, please RSVP to Crystal at crystal@ landtrustcnc.org or 336-633-0143. Hope to see you there!

For this November 9th event, we will hike a new proposed loop in the Walkers Creek area and then cook out!

In 2014 we will work as follows:

The trail is open across Little Long Mountain. We need to continue grubbing and benching as growth comes back.
Reopen original UT from High Pine Church Rd (Luther Home). to King Mountain.
Assist a Eagle Scout candidate with reopening trail from Little Long Mtn. (Thayer Rd.) north to King Mtn.
Scout and site trail across the Walker Creek Forest Service parcel north to Landtrust owned property (McArthur Property) at High Pine Church Rd.

We will work past lunch, but you are welcome to stay as long as you desire. Pack a lunch and plenty of water. Sturdy shoes and long pants are recommended.

We’ll post the worksite and specifics in advance of each workday. Look for an email or Facebook update.

We could not have accomplished this without the efforts of our local Land Trust. The Land Trust for Central North Carolina in Salisbury.www.landtrustcnc.org

Thanks for your interest in the Uwharrie Trail. We appreciate your efforts in helping us return it to it’s original length.
