The address for this event is 2015 Flint Hill Rd, Troy, NC 27371
Three Rivers Land Trust purchased the Dark Mountain Peak property in 2018 and is excited to announce its recent transfer to the United States Forest Service, placing this property permanently into the public trust. The 70 acre property possesses the top of Dark Mountain, the highest peak in Montgomery County – approximately 940 feet in elevation. The property adjoins a small portion of the Uwharrie Trail, so protection of this site helps protect the viewshed of the trail. The property is mature hardwoods with large rocky outcrops. Several interesting historical features are located on this property as mentioned in Joe Moffitt’s book, An Afternoon Hike into the Past. These include liquor springs, painted rocks, and outlaw cave. This is a wonderful addition to the Uwharrie National Forest. Thanks to Fred and Alice Stanback for their contribution towards this project.
