Hike the Spencer Woods Trail
Primary Route: Hike the loop through Spencer Woods
Hiking Distance: ~0.7 miles
Elevation Gain: Unknown
Difficulty: Easy
Trailhead: Parking area A, a gravel lot on the left side of Rowan Ave.
Hiking Directions: From the parking lot on the north side of Rowan Ave, walk west along the road. You will see a trail crossing – while all the trails in Spencer Woods loop around, do not take this trailhead. Continue up the road and shortly (after just passing the second parking lot on the south side of Rowan Ave), you will see another trail crossing before you reach the neighborhood. Turn right into Spencer Woods. At the first trail junction, keep left; a post with a laminated map will show you where you are in relation to the trails. Continue along the trail and you will see a view of the lake through the trees. When you reach what looks to be another trail crossing, continue straight across the old roadbed. At the next junction, keep left. You will reach a stream shortly before coming out on Rowan Ave right near parking area A.
Additional Information: There are two spots where the trail crosses Rowan Ave. The trail on the south side of the road resembles a “C,” so if you want a 0.3 mile addition to the north side loop described above, you can continue across the road and will end up back on Rowan Ave by the end. This section of the trail is very short and has two wooden benches where you can sit and relax.
