The Greater Uwharrie Conservation Partnership (GUCP) is hosting a FREE 2-day workshop to explore the benefits of shortleaf pine. The shortleaf pine ecosystem has been in decline for the past 30 years and many partners are working together to protect remaining stands and restore the shortleaf pine ecosystem where possible. The Uwharries region of NC is a place where shortleaf is still hanging on and there is a lot of opportunity for restoration.

Come learn more about this great tree and the many benefits it can bring to your forests. Topics that we’ll cover include the status of shortleaf pine today, ecology of the shortleaf pine ecosystem, artificial and natural regeneration of shortleaf pine, economics and yield, cost-share opportunities to help landowners plant shortleaf pine, and an introduction to the rangewide conservation plan currently being developed by the Shortleaf Pine Initiative. See attached agenda: Shortleaf Pine 101 Agenda.
