How it works

When you visit Cabarrus County to complete your Challenge miles, don’t forget to log your activity on our event page at runsignup.com. When you submit your results and log your activity, make sure to add in the comment section that you completed a trail or paddle at a preferred County Trek Spot!! This will make you eligible to win the top spot for Most Adventurous Challenger, given to the individual who travels to the most County Trek Spots across the state!

Rocky river blueway

Address: 9111 Mt. Pleasant Road South, Midland, NC 28107

Route: Pharr Family Preserve to Riverbend Farm. The canoe/kayak launch is 300 yards from the parking lot and trailhead.

GPS Coordinates: 35.288689″N, -80.483582″W

The Rocky River Blueway has six canoe/kayak launches located along its course. The northern most put-in is located in Pharr Family Preserve and is maintained by Catawba Lands Conservancy. The next launch is 4.5 miles downstream at Riverbend Farm and is maintained by the Town of Midland.

For a longer paddle, put in at the Pharr Family Preserve access and take out at the Oakboro Blueway Park access down river.  See this map for more details.

More about the Lumber River: The Rocky River is part of the Yadkin Pee Dee River Basin, and the river forms the boundary between Cabarrus, Stanly, Union and Anson Counties. 

 

Harrisburg Park Mountain Bike Trail

Starting Spot: Harrisburg Municipal Park – 191 Sims Pkwy, Harrisburg, NC 28075

GPS Coordinates: 35.318722” N, -80.658989” W 

Details: 2.5 miles of mountain bike trails.  This ride starts at the Harrisburg Half Parking Lot and inlcudes three connected routes that can be taken individually or as one run through connectors.

Harrisburg Half – 0.5 mile – Intermediate

Harrisburg Ball Field Loop – 0.5 mile – Easy

Harrisburg Extension Loop – 1.5 miles – Intermediate/Difficult

Buffalo Creek Preserve Trail

Address: Near 7911 Malibu Road, Mt Pleasant, NC 28124

About Buffalo Creek Preserve Trail: The Buffalo Creek Preserve Trail is located in the town Mount Pleasant, NC in rural Cabarrus County. The 2.1 mile trail is used for walking, hiking, running, and mountain biking. Visitors to Buffalo Creek Preserve Trail will first walk through a restored piedmont oak savanna. You will then walk along farm fields where a local farm is growing hay and grains. The trail then enters a young forest and follows along a bluff above Adams Creek.

More Information:  Buffalo Creek Trail is a part of the Butterfly Highway. “The Butterfly Highway is a statewide conservation restoration initiative that aims to restore native pollinator habitats to areas impacted by urbanization, land use change and agriculture across North Carolina. From backyard Pollinator Pitstops to large-scale roadside habitat restoration, the project is creating a network of native flowering plants to support butterflies, bees, birds and other pollen and nectar dependent wildlife.
