Gold was discovered in Gold Hill, NC in 1824 and extensive mining began in 1843, which created a boom town. Historic Gold Hill has a rich history to explore and many landmarks, as well as a short walking/hiking trail known as the Gold Hill Rail Trail.
Parking for the park and the Gold Hill Rail Trail can be found at the Gold Hill Mines Historic Park as well as the General Store located a few hundred feet away from the park.
