How Does the LandTrust Work?

The LandTrust for Central North Carolina is a non-profit corporation with a volunteer Board of Directors from throughout the 10-county region. Our small, professional staff works closely with the board to identify important properties that should be protected and preserved. Sometimes we seek out owners. Often, they come to us.

In many people, there is a natural desire to pass down property undisturbed that has given meaning to their lives and can give joy and great satisfaction to others in the future. Often, these landowners have important financial or family considerations.

LandTrust professionals help landowners, their families and their communities understand the options available – including legal and tax implications. Then they determine the best way to protect and conserve the property that is dear to them.

The LandTrust uses many tools, including tax-saving conservation easements, voluntary protection easements, donations, bargain sales and purchases and resales with covenants that run with the land in perpetuity.

The LandTrust for Central North Carolina is flexible, creative and committed to meeting the special needs and desires of people in our 10 counties. We are, in essence, your land trust.
